Terms of Service
Last updated: June 29, 2026
Welcome to HalalSurf. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the HalalSurf Chrome extension and companion website (together, the “Service”), operated by Kun Ventures (“we”, “our”, or “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
HalalSurf helps you browse the internet in alignment with Islamic values — filtering imagery, muting audio, blocking sites, and providing prayer reminders. Filtering runs primarily on your device. Some features (subscription, referrals, accountability, aggregate statistics) use our servers.
2. Eligibility & Accounts
You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to hold an account. HalalSurf may be set up and managed by a parent or guardian on behalf of a minor. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorised use.
3. Subscriptions & Billing
HalalSurf offers a free tier and paid (Premium) plans. Paid plans are billed in advance through our payment processor, Stripe, and renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You can cancel anytime from your dashboard; cancellation stops future charges and your Premium features remain active until the end of the paid period. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service: do not attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer it for malicious purposes, circumvent billing, abuse the referral program, or use it to harm others. We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.
5. What the Filter Can — and Cannot — Do (Honest Disclosure)
We want you to choose HalalSurf with full clarity and no illusion. In our faith, a fair dealing must be free of gharar (hidden uncertainty) and taghreer(misleading the other party). So, plainly and honestly: content and audio filtering rely on automated, on-device AI that we are continually improving, but it is not perfect. It may occasionally miss something that should have been covered, or cover something harmless — in other words, spills can happen. We chose on-device AI deliberately, to protect your privacy, and we are genuinely doing our best for your benefit — but HalalSurf is a tool to assist your own intention, care, and taqwa; it is not a guarantee of a safe or fully halal internet, and it does not replace your own judgement. Please continue to lower your gaze and step away when you need to.
Specifically, today’s known limitations include:
- Images: the AI can miss or over-blur; very small images (like icons) are skipped; and some images served from other domains cannot be inspected — those are kept blurred to stay on the safe side.
- Videos: frames are checked about twice a second, so a very brief flash (under roughly half a second) can pass before the next check. When something is found, the whole video is blurred, not just one part.
- Embedded players: videos embedded from other sites (for example a YouTube or Vimeo player on a blog) cannot be inspected, so they are blurred — but their sound cannot be muted by us.
- Music muting: this is detection-based. When music is mixed underneath speech it cannot be separated cleanly, so some music may pass or some audio may briefly mute. Automatic ad-muting currently works on YouTube only.
- Non-Mahram / gender filter: gender detection is less reliable on moving video and on small or side-on faces. When unsure, we deliberately err toward covering (more protection, occasionally over-blurring).
- AI models: download once from a provider the first time you use a feature, then run on your device.
- Prayer times: depend on the location and calculation method you choose — please verify them against your local mosque.
We make no warranty that the Service will catch all objectionable content. If something slips through, please tell us — your reports genuinely help us improve it for everyone, in shaa Allah.
6. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, and content (excluding your own data), is owned by us and protected by law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose.
7. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms. On account deletion, your data is removed as described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
